RUDOLF
BELARSKI
Rudolph Belarski was born in
1900. According to legend, he
was a teen-aged school drop-
out working for a coal
processing plant in
Pennsylvania and painting
grafitti on the plant walls
when his talent was
discovered by his boss, who
re-assigned him to do
advertising posters for the
firm. This break led to his
"reform"; he spent his free
time in self-education and
became not only a prolific
reader, but something of an
expert on philosophy.

At the age of 21 he went to
New York City to work his
way through the Pratt Art
Institute with odd paint jobs.
He earned money as a private
art teacher, as a sign painter,
and as a master portraitist.
The latter earned him a nice
reputation and brought
several awards and honors for
his portraits.After graduating
from Pratt, his talents were
such that he was hired by the
school as an instructor. He
was named head of the
commerical art division.
