HYDE PARK BOOKS
ROBERT
STANLEY
Robert Stanley's first
paperback cover illustration
appeared on Bantam #212,
Fighting Man in 1949 when he
was only 18 years old. After
doing six more covers for
Bantam---mostly westerns---
he moved over to Dell
Paperbacks where he
remained until 1959. There he
created the "Dell Look" of
the 50's, the distinctive
combination of bright colors
and action figures
reminesent of the old pulp
magazine illustrations. He
also did 19 covers for Zane
Grey's Western Magazine
between 1951 and 1953. He is
said to have also done a few
illustrations for Lion and
Beacon books, but we haven't
identified any.
